but we will suffer for as long as we can take

13s a charm...

i no longer work in the music industry. and actually i never really did. i interned. but anway i feel like i had a bit of an 'industry' week this week. me and a friend went to a pledge music night at proud on weds. it was cool. we saw charlie simpson do an accoustic set. which i wierdly enjoyed. and we saw a transvestite do her make up in a full size bathroom mirror. in the middle of a crowd. it was annoying actually. i kept on seeing my reflection rather then the band. and we saw tallulah rendall. she was really great like a blond florence and the machine. and i may or may not have told a few people i worked in music. anyway it was nice hearing new music. not being an intern means i can no longer spend hours listening to stuff i havnt heared yet. so it was a bit handy that my friend emailed me this song yesturday. its by a band called typhoon. and they've been around for ages really. since 2005. they are now 3 albums down. and they were recently voted in the top 10 best new bands in portland. woo. and finally. there are 13 of them. wow. i bet arranging band rehersals with this many people is a headache.

so you're standing on the opposite shore

wild things

so an exciting thing. im seeing arcade fire tonight. in hyde park. i feel inclined to write woop after that but i wont. so it seemed like a good idea to post an arcade fire song. but then i try to use this blog for songs iv just heard. but then this stumbled onto my computer screen. a short film directed by spike jonze. who directed where the wild things are and a co creator of jackass. not to be confused with spike jones. from the 1940's band spike jones and his city slickers. anyway so jonze directed a short film based on arcade fire's amazing latest album the suburbs. its out on the 2nd of aug in the united states. heres the trailer. but incase you want to listen to a song. also heres the title track from the album.

beacon dont fly too high

m.i.c

last night i begun watching geordie shore. i switched it off after about ten minutes. and whilst id admit it was kind of entertaining it is essentially. rubbish. theres alot of bad tv showing its head at the moment. i don’t think the georgies shores plum in the mouth counterpart even needs a mention. but i do miss good got to watch tv. like skins (eps 1-4). which happily followed us through from school to uni. showing what it was to be truely cool and edgy. and bound with a great soundtrack. which leads me to this track. which sounds alot like woods by bon iver. which was used in the episode of skins when effy and freddie got together. finally. and aside from being a beautiful song. its worth a mention because of the video. half kids hanging out. half drinking spit for a cup cult. you’ll see what i mean if you watch it.

and all thats left is black

side projei

oh jack white youve done it again. another collaboration another feat of musical achievement. this time its with danger mouse. danielle luppi. and norah jones. the album came out two days ago. its been described by those that made it as a very visual album. inspired by the soundtrack work of ennio morricone. who did the score for the mission. but where the visual element really comes to life is in there interactive video for the track 3 dreams of black. it sort of takes a step further then the wilderness downtown project. by arcade fire. you can drive through the video like a game. so it its worth a listen and a look.

and i'd carry any of your fears and your hopes father

well if annie mac likes it..

so this would be the second swedish posting. and this one is a duo. marlin on vocals and gustaf is writing the songs. interestingly enough there is no niki. and also there is no dove. but then who said stage names had to be based on truth. la roux certainly didn’t. marlin’s theatrical ways on the stage are causing similarities being pointed to the likes of bat for lashes. and her music is good. so that’s at least two thums up. and if you are thinking. yea but what’s she really like. then go check them out. london 24th may.

when you move i move with you

bonjour

i hadn’t heard this song in ages. it was on a cd that I used to listen to in the car while driving to work. and living alone. only for one week. but it reminds me of a time of feeling independent. anyway it popped up on shuffle the other day. on the euro star. on the way to paris. which was great by the way. thanks for asking. it also feels appropriate as it is about being a lazy dancer. which im not. but I have been lazy on this blog. so my tenuous link can feel half founded. the link is not for the official video. but for a wicked little piece of animation by christopher mills. no I haven’t heard of him either. but it works nicely as a bit of. what we call in the business. audio visual somthingorother.

i don't know if you mean you are the one to love

strong support

recently i have felt a little distant from pitchfork. boy do they like their electronic music. not that i dont. but it seems a little much sometimes. its more of a rarity to find something that you might want to listen to on a thursday afternoon. without feeling like the beeps and beets are searing into your brain. when your trying to concentrate on spread sheets. so i was pleasantly surprised to find this song. and this band. smith westerns. formed in 2007 they dwell in california. they have the support of the publishers. guardians band of the day. rollingstones band of the week. 8.4 album review on pitchfork. and they have the support of the bands. who they have. in turn. supported in a physical sense. mgmt. florence. belle and sebastian. girls. passion pit. and so when it came to producing the album chris coady stepped up to the mark. if not familiar with the name. he produced yeah yeah yeahs. tv on the radio. and beach house. so i think its safe to say he is good. and smith western are good. very good. especially this song:

you dont need to explain if everythings changed just know im just like you

despite this band now residing in LA. group love actually met a year prior to there formation in the somewhat random location of crete. the small greek island. at an art residency. of course they did. signed to atlantic. my old interning stomping ground. they look set for big things. in a relative sense. they are also affiliated with the. oh too cool. chess club. with a 'sound' that has been noted to remind us of the pixies. but worse as one angered person typed under the youtube vid. they seem a good band to note down. especially as they have been given the bbc nod and made it onto the 6 music a playlist. and if you want to catch them live. they are playing in london next week. along with other places in the uk. please note. they have been kind enough to spell colours correctly.

oh i am never on my way

get some perspective.

its all about context. i found this band through last fm. and randomly picked a song on youtube. this song here. and i liked it. great. i thought. but then i looked for context. which isnt always a good thing. for example when you meet someone normal. go on their facebook. and get a shock. because they have chosen to share strange things. opinions. photos. lifestyle choices. and its not what you expected. the context is bad. but the context for this band really just came in the form of their other tracks. not quite as dire as the 'unforgivable' owl city. but just not great. and pitchfork gave them 4.2. context has indeed worked again these guys. however for a nice song for a nice songs sake give this a listen:

jessie j represents everything i hate about the music of 2011. already. and whilst i realise she may be critically acclaimed. and chosen. i dont get it. but then again. i didnt get lady gaga either. around the just dance beginnings. i thought she was rubbish. but now i like her. alot. shes cool. so i may be wrong about j. but where as lady gaga hits global headlines for wearing a red meat dress. jessie j gets a mention in metro for wearing a mickey mouse top to the recording studio. crazy. so im not swayed just yet. instead i shall stick to what i like. which is modest mouse's isaacc brock's side project ugly cassanova.

in the steady blur of the days

another day another dollar

it said in the news today that this is meant to be the gloomiest day of the year. and actually judging by the rain this morning. and the general chaos that was waterloo station at 8am. id be inclined to agree with these men who make these emotional forecasts. however mondays are busy. and in the office there is little time to be gloomy. so whilst this day may not be as bleak as the media warns it to be. sometimes you do need a little je ne sais to help you feel a bit more anti gloom in the morning. enter the great morning music tune. for some its a blast of embarrassing techno. others a hit of blood pumping anger fueled rap. for me. at the moment. it is this:
